Flocculants (Polyelectrolytes)

Dew is a global supplier of flocculants technologies used in a wide range of applications, including industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment processes. We deliver flocculants and applications technologies, which in combination provide significant performance advantages. Through our extensive flocculants research, we are experts at solving wastewater treatment problems. This capability derived from Dew’s expertise in flocculants architecture and application know-how, provides customers with a valuable resource for improvement in their daily operations. Our technical service, customer service and sales staff complement the manufacture of high quality flocculants to support the market needs. Dew’s water-soluble flocculants include both organic coagulants and flocculants for various end-use customer applications.

Wastewater treatment flocculants are synthetic, organic flocculants that are used for clarification, thickening or dewatering applications.

Three forms are available:

Nonionic flocculants - exhibit neutral behavior in solution
Anionic flocculants - attract positively charged ions in solution
Cationic flocculants - attract negatively charged ions in solution

Flocculants chains act to attract the fine particles suspended in a liquid, forming larger groups, called ‘flocs’. If these flocs develop sufficient density, they will precipitate during settling, leaving behind a clear liquid. Alternatively low density flocs may be used to separate undesirable particulates from the water and be skimmed from the surface, leaving clear water behind. The nature of the target particles, the properties of the liquid, including pH, electrical conductivity, hardness, and added chemicals, will determine the most effective flocculants type to use. If the water system is being treated microbially, after flocculation, the flocculants needs to be non-toxic to the bacteria, and preferably, biodegradable.

Flocculants present an efficient, time-saving and safe chemical solution to the problems that modern industry faces in operating under ever tightening environmental restrictions. In certain municipal and industrial waste treatment situations, they perform in tandem with bacterial formulas. Some of the possible applications follow:

  • Influent water clarification
  • Sludge dewatering
  • Oil reclamation
  • Air flotation
  • Air scrubbers in steel, aluminum and other industries
  • Wastewater clarification
  • Metal plating waste thickening
  • Juice clarification
  • Dye removal

Dew’s flocculants are high molecular weight water-soluble flocculants used in numerous industrial applications. They are available in a wide range of charge type, chemistry (monomers used), charge density, molecular weight and architecture (linear, branched, structured). Our manufacturing facilities can produce products covering the broadest range of physical and chemical specifications to satisfy the demands of even the most challenging applications.

Flocculants are used in almost every industry and in innumerable applications worldwide. Our products and expertise are “world class” and we develop treatment programs that provide environmentally friendly, cost-effective results.
